Solstitial celebrations

Post by Denise » Tue Jun 20, 2006 6:01 pm

In the 7th century, Saint Eligius (died 659/60) warned the recently-Christianized inhabitants of Flanders against these pagan solstitial celebrations. According to the Vita by his companion Ouen, he would say:

"No Christian on the feast of Saint John or the solemnity of any other saint performs solestitia [summer solstice rites] or dancing or leaping or diabolical chants."

14 Centuries later and they're still chanting and dancing around Stonehenge at the summer solstice today. Paganism has deep roots.

Karl, I was watching the news about the Arizona fire, my mom lives in the mountains there but she is south east of the fire. Anyway they were saying what a shame this is because the 'new agers" go there to get electric vibes or somthing way out like that. Then they brought up the summer solstice in a few days and they couldn't go there to celebrate whatever it is they do.

The first thought that came to my mind was, "Hum, wonder if this is God's way of stopping that nonsense, at least there anyway."

"Celestial Celebrations

Hi Denise, With the planetary orbits doing their "normal thing" by entering close to each other (Mars/Earth); with comets screeching past our Lunar orbit; with Tsunamis; droughts; floods and the like, New Agers across the globe are in a state of etherial wonder (and often frenzie) as they believe that the "AGE OF AQUARIUS" us upon us!

Sort of reminds one of the Elijah and the Prophets of Baal that we recently heard about in the readings at daily Mass! They are getting whipped up about...nothing unusual. Unfortunately, I have also heard of many Christians falling into the same line of thought about "Mother Earth". Gaia worship is on the rise and Catholics need to be aware!!! Priests, Deacons and Laiety alike are falling for one of the oldest Gnostice Heresies of our race! AND to make matters worse, they insist upon dragging the Poor Blessed Virgin Mary into it as their figurehead for "Holy Mother...Holy Mother Earth...Holy Mother/Father God". 8-)

We all need to be aware that some "earth changes" are within NORMAL activity for the planet. And, as always, take our concerns to OUR FATHER!

Blessings to all getting ready for .....school, and Yes...if you're in Texas pray HARDER for RAIN!!!

Amen to that Marguerite, we live in an age of hysteria, brought on by our distance from God.
