Some priests are going...backwards?

For the liturgy, "through which the work of our redemption is accomplished," (1) most of all in the divine sacrifice of the Eucharist, is the outstanding means whereby the faithful may express in their lives, and manifest to others, the mystery of Christ and the real nature of the true Church.

Some priests are going...backwards?

**Ad orientem** (Latin for "to the east") is a phrase used to describe the orientation of Christian prayer and worship, where the priest and the people face the same direction, usually towards the east². This is also how Catholics have traditionally worshipped the Lord¹.

There is no official document that mandates or forbids ad orientem worship in the Ordinary Form of the Mass. However, there are some guidelines and instructions on how to celebrate Mass ad orientem in a reverent and proper way³.
