Today, November 27th, is the feast of the Miraculous Medal, also known as the Medal of the Immaculate Conception. It was revealed to Saint Catherine Labouré during her novitiate. In 1830, she experienced extraordinary divine favors, culminating in apparitions of Mary Immaculate.
On November 27, 1830, Sister Catherine described a vision of Mary with her feet on a white globe. Her fingers were adorned with radiant gem-studded rings symbolizing graces she wanted to give. An oval frame encircled her crushing a serpent while offering her assistance to all, encircled with "O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee"
Our Lady instructed Catherine to have a Medal struck in this likeness, promising great graces for those who wear it with confidence. When Sister Catherine consulted her confessor regarding the lack of any writing on the back, she initially was disturbed. However, after prayer and meditation, she heard a voice affirming that "The M and the two hearts express enough."
The Medal, crafted according to Our Lady's design, quickly circulated and became known as the Miraculous Medal. It brought forth innumerable wonders, including restored health, conversions, broken bad habits, and marvelous graces.
May this story of the Miraculous Medal continue to inspire, reminding us of the extraordinary power of devotion to Our Blessed Mother, faith in her Immaculate Conception and divine grace.
