Saint Gaucherius was born in France and was fortunate to receive a good Christian education. At an early age of eighteen, he renounced things of this world and chose to live a solitary life.
Many men came to love this type of life and pleaded to be allowed to join. He gladly accepted and gradually built a community which he nurtured and gave a rule of Saint Augustine as a guide.
He trained many holy men in this community and eventually died in the year 1140.
