Imho, there can *only* be entrapment. Someone going to confession would not and has never gone to law enforcement and said that they confessed to this or that priest.
How is anyone to know that a person confessed a crime to a priest when it is entirely possible that the crime was never mentioned in the confessional if the person even did go to confession? Even without a seal, nobody else is there. There is not a way to prove what was said.

And if confessions are not done face to face, how is the priest hearing a crime to have certainty of who made the confession to him? How can you report that someone confessed to a crime but you don't know who it was??

This can only be for entrapment purposes. I don't see any other use.

We need to storm heaven before this type of law becomes widespread.

another issue is they take their phones in and record the session

prayers are needed indeed

And as for us, we can avoid mortal sin completely and then this all wouldn't be a problem. Yes, it is good to confess venial sin as Jesus died for them too, but confessing a venial sin wouldn't bring criminal charges against a priest or penitent. 😉😁
