Fr. Benedict Kiely: "What a joy and gift of providence it is to celebrate the anniversary of the Council of Nicaea this year. We need its clarity, not modern confusion."

Devotion to the souls in Purgatory contains in itself all the works of mercy, which supernaturalized by a spirit of faith, should merit us Heaven. de Sales

The Council of Nicaea in 325 AD was a pivotal landmark in Church history and the first council convened (if we agree that the council of Jerusalem where Paul travelled to Peter to receive clarity from the apostles regarding the gentiles becoming Christian and did they have to follow Jewish Laws -...this council was not of the magnitude of having every single leader or their representatives present; tho naturally the church was in its early stages).

Nicaea interestingly was unique in that it was called by an Emperor (Constantine) to try and settle disputes arising in Christendom, particularly regarding Arianism and other heresies that arose. It settled the query on the Divine Nature of Jesus, and his relationship to the Father, formulated the Nicene Creed which declared the beliefs of the faith, promulgated Canon Law, and other items such as observance of Easter.
